THIS SUMMER, BECOME A PUBLISHED AUTHOR!

Give your child the unforgettable experience of seeing their work in print! Our four-day immersive camp will guide young writers through the process of creating and publishing a collective book. Whether they’re poets, short story writers, or aspiring novelists, every participant will write and contribute an individual piece, ensuring they become published authors by the end of the camp.

What to Bring / Where to Go / Schedule

Get Ready for an Amazing Camp Experience!

Here's what you'll need for camp:

  • Writing Materials: We provide journals and all writing supplies, but feel free to bring your current writing or journal.

  • Clothing: A sweatshirt if there's even the slightest chance you'll get cold.

  • Food: A light snack and lunch—our days are long, and we need to stay energized!

  • Water Bottle: Stay hydrated throughout the day.

Where to Go:

  • Location: Fort Dorchester High School, Room 407

  • Parents: On the first day, please park and bring your writer in.

Special Event:

  • Thursday: We'll be taking our author photos!

Additional Reminders:

  • Emergency Contact Information: Make sure we have your up-to-date contact information for emergencies.

What Your Child Will Learn...

📙Story Development: Techniques for brainstorming and developing compelling stories and poems.

📘Writing Skills: Enhance writing skills with practical tips and techniques.

📕Peer Feedback: Learn to give and receive constructive feedback from peers.

📗Introduction to Editing and Design: Basic understanding of editing and book design.

📚Publishing Process Overview: Insight into the complete publishing process.

General Daily Schedule

9:00 AM - 9:30 AM: Arrival and Morning Warm-Up

9:30 AM - 10:30 AM: Writing Concept Workshops

10:30 AM - 10:45 AM: Break

10:45 AM - 11:45 AM: Writing Development and Peer Feedback

11:45 AM - 12:15 PM: Lunch Break

12:15 PM - 1:15 PM: Writing Exercises

1:15 PM - 1:30 PM: Break

1:30 PM - 2:30 PM: Individual Writing and 1:1 Support

2:30 PM - 3:00 PM: Group Activity and Wrap-Up

Teamwork: It's important for everyone to be on time as we work together like a crew in a racing shell.

First Day: Parents, please park and bring your writer in on the first day.

Special Event: Author photos will be taken on Thursday.

Meet Your Instructor: Jessica Amaro, MA

With over 10 years of experience as a mental health educator and trainer, Jessica Amaro has worked extensively with kids in crisis. She has published over 10 books and helped countless people become authors through her company, Amaro Group Publishing. Jessica's passion for literacy and learning is evident in her international travels and mission work. She founded the Amaro Literacy Mission in South Africa, a literacy program dedicated to promoting reading and writing skills. Jessica’s books are recognized globally, reflecting her dedication to fostering literacy worldwide.
